Badatales

Hi there! We are a husband-and-wife team, partners in crime, and total suckers for anything that smells like distance and wilderness. The name Badatales came about quite simply: Ba for Bára, Da for David, and tales for the stories we gather on the road. In Czech, it also plays on the word for "explorers" (badatelé), which perfectly describes our constant urge to find places where you’re more likely to meet a fox than a person.

In our everyday lives, we try to spend as much time outdoors as possible, but as soon as we can, we pack our bags and head to where nature does the talking. Bára loves books and the thousands of lives she can live through them, but we both know one thing for sure. You only get one real life, and traveling through pages just isn't enough. You have to live it for real, while you still can.

From a million photos to our own website

Scotland is our second home. We’ve driven it from coast to coast, and the raw landscapes and thousands of sheep never get old. In recent years, we’ve also fallen head over heels for America and its National Parks. It's clear that the list is not completed yet. We want to explore the world even more and see all the stunning views that await, as much as we possibly can.

Bára has an eye for cinematic shots and David drags his drone everywhere and captures shots so incredible that our hard drives are literally screaming for space. For a long time, we kept these treasures to ourselves, but then we realized it would be a shame not to share.

It started with Instagram and eventually grew into this website and our YouTube channel. We want to show you the world exactly as we see it: no filters, no fluff.

Risk-takers and planners all in one

Our trips are sometimes one big adrenaline rush. We planned our Alaska expedition, from the initial idea to buying tickets and actually taking off in just one week. Crazy. Other times, we spend months over maps, improving itineraries so everything is perfect. We split the work evenly, although David handles most of the miles behind the wheel since he’s the tech-savvy one of the pair.

We’ve had our fair share of fails, too. Canceled ferries due to storms, being terrified by a herd of wild pigs, or accidentally trespassing on private estates. But it was exactly that "accident" part that led us to a amazin people and stunning spot in Scotland where, a year later, we got married. Or the time in Ballater when we stood there with our mouths open as King Charles drove right past us. That’s what we call fate, and you won’t find it sitting on your couch.

Why do we do it?

We want to inspire you to just go. A lot of people think you need to be a millionaire to travel, but we’re proof that’s not true. Everything can be planned to fit your budget, and most of the time, the only limits are in our own heads.

Today will never happen again. We want to make sure that both we and you have as many memories as possible of places that took our breath away. Come explore with us!
